Mark McCarty is a full-time arbitrator and mediator with a focus on labor and employment, civil rights, and personal injury matters. He is also available for workplace investigations.
Mark has practiced labor and employment law in Washington since 1988 in many different capacities. He has represented labor unions, individual employees, and employers, with a particular focus on public sector issues, especially law enforcement. During that time, he has served as an arbitrator and mediator in more than 40 cases, typically under the mandatory arbitration rules of the Washington Superior Courts.
He also obtained a Certificate in Mediation Skills awarded after four days of training at the University of Washington Law School in 1996. In his six years with the Seattle Public Schools, Mark routinely was assigned to attempt to mediate employment/labor disputes in cases he was not otherwise involved in prior to the case moving to arbitration. He has routinely achieved an av preeminent rating in Martindale-Hubbell.
Throughout his time in Washington, Mark has represented employees and labor unions not only in the Seattle area, but also in various locations on the East side of the mountains, including Spokane and Walla Walla. He represented corrections officers in Walla Walla before the city was a destination location. Mark has mediated, arbitrated, litigated, and tried labor/employment cases on behalf of individual employees, labor organizations, and employers. He also has been active in the labor and employment law section of the King County Bar Association for decades. Mark continues to serve on the Pacific Coast Labor and Employment Law Conference Planning Committee having served as its chairperson in 2004.
Being fully retired from working for others, Mark has no ongoing clients or other business obligations to conflict with his work as an arbitrator-mediator-investigator. Also, he is typically available on short notice and continues to enjoy driving through the Pacific Northwest. Mark is willing to work evenings and weekends and to rearrange his life when possible to assist with resolving conflict as soon as possible. Mark has home offices in both Seattle and Spokane, and he is willing to come to your offices, to a mutually agreeable neutral location, or to conduct a hearing via Zoom.
